DAD has a large studio space in the former Royal Mail sorting office. Space in the studio can be rented as a studio share, subject to availability, and for projects.

Studio projects

The Table is a symbol of peace and is inspired by Brancusi’s Table of Silence, part of a sculptural ensemble built as a war memorial to peace at Turgu jui Romania in 1937. The Table is constructed from timber reclaimed from iconic buildings in Dover which have recently been demolished, namely the Britannia pub and Buckland paper mill. read more

The muf Cultural Survey report and Framework for Dover had its formal launch on Tuesday March 29th, 2011, at the newly refurbished Dover Marina Hotel on the seafront. Members of the original steering group as well as some of those who participated in the original survey were among those who attended. Richard Bundy played on keyboard during the launch event.

An artist will be commissioned to create a work to mark the new finish of the North Downs Way National Trail on Dover's Sea Front.

DAD will also be working with local school pupils and residents to raise awareness of the North Downs Way Trail and promote the health aspects of walking and interest in the Tonkin Liu design for the Esplanade in which the marker will be integrated.

Inspired by the new Esplanade by London-based architects Tonkin Liu and the newly commissioned North Downs Way End of Trail Marker by artist Alma Tischler Wood, both on Dover’s seafront, Dover Arts Development (DAD) asked photographer Nigel Green to explore the trail and document some other interesting examples of 20th and 21st Century architecture. read more

Working with partners, Espace 36 in Saint-Omer, we are developing a project which explores issues around location, residence, migration and what it means to be a European in the newly defined territory of Europe.

1 UK and 1 French artist will each spend up to 15 days in each region to develop their work. The residencies will be based in Dover and Saint-Omer; the county of Kent and Côte d'Opale will form the project's areas of research. The artists' work will be exhibited together: 6 September – 10 October 2009 in the gallery of Espace 36 in Saint-Omer and 24 October – 28 November 2009 in a non-gallery space in Dover. The interpretation/mediation of the artists' work to the public in Saint-Omer and Dover is an integral part of the project and will be led by the mediation co-ordinator with Espace 36, in liaison with the artists and partners. read more

DAD was commissioned by Sea Change Dover to run a series of 5 free creative workshops during the Sea Change Exhibition at Dover Discovery Centre from 15 July to 29 August 2009. One of the aims of the workshops was to raise awareness of the pool of professional artists (dance, visual and culinary arts) living in Dover and design activities and opportunities for the public to engage with this talent.

Hidden Treasures is a national programme developed by Screen South, in conjunction with the UK Film Council's Digital Film Archive Fund (DFAF), which aims to increase access to archive-based screenings.

DAD is working together with White Nave cic to deliver Why not start here? - an exciting programme of film as part of the Hidden Treasures project on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September in Dover. This weekend celebrates the launch of the Cultural Olympiad.
