Celebration Arch to welcome the Torch to Dover
After days of winding wool round cardboard templates and seemingly endless trimming of "ones made earlier", work started on creating the Celebration Arch commissioned by The World Famous for ‘Song for Dover’ – Olympic Torch Evening Celebration, in partnership with Dover District Council and Kent County Council, funded by Arts Council England.
Two boards were cut to a beautiful design by Edda Jones, picking up on the angularity of the London 2012 logo, onto which the pom pom 'garland' was placed with help from Katherine Moloney and Zhan Lu Smith.
The Arch was hung in place by long-established local builder Kevin Hopper and his team, above the entrance to the underpass leading through to Dover's Esplanade. The Arch has been attracting comments and raising smiles from the public as they walk through onto the ceremonial painted red carpet.
The works to spruce up the Underpass received generous additional support from Dover Town Council.
