This project is a 'spin off' from the North Downs Way consultancy work DAD did on the process of commissioning an artist to create a piece of work to mark the new finish of the North Downs Way National Trail on Dover's seafront. DAD will be working with local school pupils and residents to raise awareness of the North Downs Way Trail and promote interest in the Tonkin Liu design for the Esplanade and the new End-of Trail-Marker by Alma Tischler Wood.
DAD will also be creating a pocket-size map of the North Downs Way National Trail focusing on the urban sites through which the Trail passes and highlighting the Modernist and contemporary architectural treasures in those sites, including the Tonkin Liu Esplanade development and the End-of-Trail marker. DAD will commission artist photographer Nigel Green to create the images that will feature on the map.
The schools project involves pupils at Dover Girls Grammar, St Mary's Primary and River Primary, who will take part in walks in the summer term along sections of the North Downs Way, ending at the new site for the End-of-Trail Marker. Pupils will record their experience and create new work for an exhibition in the Centurion House Box Gallery in Bench Street, Dover. The exhibition is viewable 24/7 through August.
