ARTISTS & CONTRIBUTORS:
Sharon Haward is based in Hastings and has been influenced by her immediate surroundings, specifically areas of urban regeneration and a range of historically significant buildings. These places and spaces have inspired Haward to create site-specific installations, interventions and open ended experimental work using found materials, photography and video. Haward's work evolves from a synthesis of history, memory of place, transient occupancy and a more abstract response to the physicality of the space.
Berlin, Liverpool and London have been the sites of recent projects and a range of local venues and sites have been used for the creation of temporary and often speculative installations — a crypt, an empty flat, an abandoned town house and an empty print works.
Haward is co-director of the newly founded RUNWAY – Artists Without Studios, an organization created for artists interested in creating experimental work in empty, abandoned or partly inhabited buildings and spaces. Haward has 20 years teaching experience working in formal and informal educational settings and has worked in several galleries and museums delivering workshops and gallery education including the De La Warr Pavilion and Towner.
