Help make a woolly garland

On Saturday 19 May Katherine Moloney will be leading a pom pom and bunting making workshop in the Teen Curve, Dover Discovery Centre CT16 1P from 10am - 4pm. The workshop is open to everyone so do come along.

The completed pom poms will be part of a garland display to be hung above the entrance to the underpass going towards the seafront in Biggin street, along the Torch relay route.

DAD Funding bid success

Dover Arts Development (DAD) is pleased to announce that it has been successful with its funding bid to Arts Council England and Kent Arts & Culture for a new 20-month project called War & Peace. The total grant is just under £95k.

Colourful pom poms made to celebrate 100 days to go

On Wednesday 18 April, as part of Dover District’s 100 days to go celebrations around Dover’s Live Site, DAD ran a workshop in Dover Discovery Centre, led by Dover-based artist Katherine Moloney from Dover with help from Dover resident Caroline Gillings.

Pupils from River Primary made a host of colourful pom poms, adding to the pom poms made in March by pupils at at St Mary’s C of E Primary School. The pom poms will be part of a garland display above the entrance to the underpass going towards the seafront, along the Torch relay route.

Bunting Forever brings together all generations

Participants spanning several generations took part in a Bunting Forever workshop today at St Mary's C of E primary school, organised by Key Stage 1 Leader, Alison Trelfer. Alison has previously worked with pupils from St Mary's on the DAD North Downs Way project and it was lovely to work with her again.

Capacity turnout for the Dover preview of Watermark

There was a capacity turnout on Tuesday March 6th at Dover Town Hall for the Dover Preview of Dover Arts Development’s new Documentary Feature film about Buckland Mill, Watermark. Ron Wright who appears in the film helped welcome people as they arrived, along with DAD directors Joanna Jones and Clare Smith.

The audience included many former Mill employees, their friends and family as well as The Vice Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Paul Le Chevalier, and his escort, Cllr Suzanne Le Chevalier and The Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Veronica Philpott and her escort Mr Chris Philpott.

Gold Medal Knitting, local knitters reach the half-mile mark

Half of a mile of bunting has been made by over 100 dedicated local knitters in preparation for the arrival of the Olympic torch on the 18 July 2012. As part of Open Weekend Bunting Forever developed by DAD (Dover Arts Development) and launched in July 2011 brings together craft makers to work together and share their skills with novice knitters to make over a mile of knitted, crocheted or felt bunting which will be hung in the town to welcome the Olympic Torch in July 2012.

What Price Beauty

On Wednesday 1 February, Liza Fior from muf architecture/art gave an inspiring presentation at the Town Council Chamber.  She shared with us some of the relatively inexpensive projects muf has introduced in other Town Centres that challenge the idea that thoughtful design is unaffordable.

Almost half a mile of bunting

Thanks to today's workshop held in The Curve in the Dover Discovery Centre, we have almost half a mile of bunting assembled so are well on our way to our one-mile target. Regular and occasional knitters joined in to create more pennants and have a good natter at the same time, even if the nattering meant the occasional dropped stitch or forgetting to increase at both ends or losing track of the number of rows.
