Between Beacon and Shaft

French artist Nicolette Picheral and accomplished solo guitarist Colin Hinds will be working under the direction of Stéphane Vérité on a production involving narration and music.  Hinds who has recently come to live in Dover is best known as guitarist with the Liverpool-based pop legends China Crisis.

Dover Big Local Conversation Event

On Saturday 25 May 2013 Clare Smith led on a mapping project for the Dover Big Local Conversation Event in the town hall, with help from artists Charley Vines and Jack Coulson. Residents of all ages were invited to share their dreams for Dover and asked to "Map the possible. Map the impossible". DAD invited photographers Chris Burke and Martin Bradley to join in the mapping of the Dover Big Local Area - they both used photographs they had taken in the Big Local Area as a way of stimulating conversation.

Workshop in spontaneous creativity with South Africa’s HA!Man and Dover’s Zen Collective

A Workshop in spontaneous creativity with South Africa’s HA!Man and Dover’s Zen Collective took place on Sunday May 5th 2013, 10am – 4pm, at 67 Astley Avenue, Dover, Kent CT16 2PL

The workshop was free and open to all ages with some or no previous experience. Participants brought an instrument if they had one and a total of 18 people took part.

Artsmark workshops

DAD was commissioned by http://www.artswork.org.uk/south-east-bridge to deliver a series of workshops for Dover District Schools that registered for Artsmark. The brief was to deliver a creative, experiential process and to consult with pupils and inform the cultural strand of the forthcoming Inspire programme (Pass the Passion Legacy).

Back the Bid for East Kent City of Culture 2017

As part of the campaign for East Kent to become City of Culture 2017, a film crew led by Daniel Lipman, Head of creative projects at the Marlowe Theatre visited Dover today, with Bob and Roberta Smith’s mirrors to capture people’s reflections of East Kent, comprising the five urban centres of Canterbury, Margate, Folkestone, Ashford and Dover, as a City Imagined.

How would you spend £1million on Dover?

People are always saying nothing happens in Dover or they can’t change anything. Well, now you can! Residents of all ages now have an exciting opportunity to make a lasting positive difference to their community.

Thanks to the Big Lottery Big Local Initiative, Dover has £1m to spend on resident-led projects over the next ten years.

This unique National Lottery initiative not only awards money to communities without an application, but more importantly lets the community decide how, when and what the money will be spent on.

DAD Spring Overview 2013

A few people have pointed out to us that it is time for our Spring overview!

A highlight  at the beginning of the year was the invitation from ALISN to be part of Sublet at the London Art Fair. The artist-led projects that made up Sublet were described as a selection of the “most sophisticated artist-led projects in the UK.”
