Capacity turnout for the Dover preview of Watermark

There was a capacity turnout on Tuesday March 6th at Dover Town Hall for the Dover Preview of Dover Arts Development’s new Documentary Feature film about Buckland Mill, Watermark. Ron Wright who appears in the film helped welcome people as they arrived, along with DAD directors Joanna Jones and Clare Smith.

The audience included many former Mill employees, their friends and family as well as The Vice Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Paul Le Chevalier, and his escort, Cllr Suzanne Le Chevalier and The Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Veronica Philpott and her escort Mr Chris Philpott.

Dover Here & Now

The first Dover Cultural Framework event, Dover Here & Now, took place on 13 October 2011 in the Roundhouse Theatre, Dover Discovery Centre, for an invited audience and we were very pleased with the turnout. 75 people registered and 65 attended on the day.

Watermark preview at KETV studios

Dover Arts Development (DAD) showed a preview of the recently finished Watermark film. The preview was a special screening for the 50 members of the cast, nearly all of whom worked at the Mill. KETV studios kindly allowed the screening to take place at their premises.  We were quite nervous about showing the film to everyone but there was no need to worry as everyone said how much they enjoyed the film. For Jim Low it was “a nice trip down memory lane.

Spring 2011 newsletter

Turner Contemporary opened to the public in Margate on 16 April in a blaze of sunshine. It’s spring and with the opening of Turner Contemporary as the highlight of the South East cultural calendar it seems a good time to think about new beginnings for DAD and new developments in Dover over the past six months as well as events that are coming up in the immediate future.

Lovely work by pupils at Christchurch Academy

The year 7 class worked on the Old Buckland Mill project, researching the mill and talking to family members. Some pupils brought in newspaper clippings and mementos that belong to family members that used to be employed at the mill. In lessons pupils creatded studies of the mill in pencil, pen and ink and in mono printing.
