The Voyagers: Exhibition

The Voyagers is a response to Dover’s Bronze Age Boat on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its discovery.The installation includes two pieces of work by Clare Smith, made with the help of friends, craftmakers, artists, children and pupils from St Mary’s C of E primary school, and the general public.

ReFraming Premier

ReFraming by Korinna McRobert 2012 (68min) was screened in the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club, 5 Waterloo Crescent, Dover CT16 1LA on September 6th 2012 6.30pm in front of an audience of 35 people.

Korinna McRobert completed her new video work, ReFraming, during a one-month residency-internship in July with Dover Arts Development (DAD), as part of DAD’s War & Peace programme.

The Voyagers: press release

2012 is the 20th anniversary of the discovery of Dover’s 3,500-year-old Bronze Age Boat. In response to this, artist Clare Smith is creating two pieces of work, inspired by her interest in the symbolism of boats as vehicles of transition and their connection to mortuary rituals. The project explores personal and collective memory through shared, communal making.

ReFraming

ReFraming is a film which was completed during Korinna McRobert's one-month residency in Dover with DAD in July 2012. Born of a Greek Cypriot refugee and a British immigrant, her practice focuses on concepts of hybridity, exile and war with a focus on the body. Where her mother was exiled from the port of Famagusta during the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the artist found sanctuary in the port of Dover.

Red carpet treatment for Dover's Underpass

Regular users of Dover’s Underpass and local residents will have noticed that the ceiling has been cleaned and repainted and the drains unblocked so that the area remains dry. The works, undertaken by Kevin Hopper, were coordinated by DAD, with the support of the town council, in preparation for the Olympic torch passing through on July 18th.  Following the works to clean up the underpass a a  “red carpet” has been painted through the middle providing a ceremonial welcome to all those walking through to the seafront.

2,000 metres of bunting hung in the town
