Embarkation is Dover Arts Development's first major programme of international contemporary visual art for Dover Town and District. Embarkation has two strands:
Transmettre/Transmit
Transmettre/Transmit is a collaboration between Dover Arts Development and Espace 36, Association d'Art Contemporain, Saint-Omer. Four UK artists and four French artists will be working with heritage sites in Saint-Omer in 2007 and in Dover in 2008. The project also has an educational strand which is being led by published author and poet Katherine May in Dover District schools.
DAD Photography Commissions 2007-08
The DAD photography commissions 07-08 will invite five artists from the UK and mainland Europe to develop photographic works for key exterior sites in Dover town centre. The artists will spend two weeks in Dover District researching and developing their work in response to the location and communities. During the period of the commission there will be the opportunity for each artist to discuss their research and practice with Dover District residents and community groups. It is envisaged that the form for this exchange will be chosen by the artist and will differ in each commission. The objectives of the DAD photography commissions 07-08 are to bring high-level contemporary photography to Dover Town with total public accessibility for local residents and those passing through the port.
Embarkation is funded by Arts Council England, South East, (ACE) with additional funding from the European Union (ERDF) through the Interreg IIIA programme. It is supported by:
