The straight line

Artists Dinah Bird and Jean-Philippe Renoult have been in Dover researching communications lines between France and the UK for the development of their cross Channel radio broadcast, The Straight Line ‘

In 1931 the World’s first microwave transmission tests were conducted between Calais and Dover.

Fast forward to 2019 and microwaves are being used again by trading companies to transmit data as radio pulses through the air. Speed is essential for high-frequency trading, or computer-driven buying and selling of shares, where millions of dollars can be made or lost within milliseconds, faster than the blink of an eye.

With this in mind DinahBird and Jean-Philippe Renoult are researching the possibility of recreating a cross Channel radio broadcast, using the same technology.
