The DAD urban room
MA Architecture (MArch) students from Yale university were welcomed and treated to DAD’s legendary hospitality on Thursday 4 February: homemade cupcakes and tea.
The students were in Dover on a 3-day research visit organised by Charles Holland, director of FAT:Fashion Architecture Taste, which he runs along with founding directors Sam Jacob, who was also present, and Sean Griffiths. The research visit was part of an Advanced Studio semester called “This is England”, delivered by FAT as part of the MArch programme. The semester is focused on Dover and looks at general issues of border, immigration, national identity and symbolism as well as the specific issues of Dover.
Sarah Lang of Dover Pride gave an overview of all the developments planned for Dover and Clare and Joanna introduced DAD. The discussion afterwards covered demographics, common issues shared by the UK’s seaside towns, specific issues faced by Dover, Dover’s particular approach to regeneration and what it is like to live and work in the town.
