REMADE IN DOVER GETS GO AHEAD

Remade in Dover is a new project which has just been awarded £10,000 by Kent County Council.  DAD will be working in partnership with Dover Pride to deliver the project, which will see Dover’s former post office become ‘Recreation’: a new shop that will be home to the project for three months starting in mid November.

‘Recreation’ will be a place to come and buy locally produced and crafted upcycled items; see, buy and be inspired by beautiful international upcycled pieces; bring your items to workshops to be upcycled into something new; share your knowledge and craft skills with other people; and also to swap something you no longer use with something someone else has left in the dedicated swap shop area. In case you weren’t aware of what upcycle means, to ‘upcycle’ is to make something new from a waste product or something you no longer use. read more

RÉSIDER/RESIDE

Working with partners, Espace 36 in Saint-Omer, we are developing a project which explores issues around location, residence, migration and what it means to be a European in the newly defined territory of Europe.

1 UK and 1 French artist will each spend up to 15 days in each region to develop their work. The residencies will be based in Dover and Saint-Omer; the county of Kent and Côte d'Opale will form the project's areas of research. The artists' work will be exhibited together: 6 September – 10 October 2009 in the gallery of Espace 36 in Saint-Omer and 24 October – 28 November 2009 in a non-gallery space in Dover. The interpretation/mediation of the artists' work to the public in Saint-Omer and Dover is an integral part of the project and will be led by the mediation co-ordinator with Espace 36, in liaison with the artists and partners. read more

DEFEND / DÉFENDRE

Defend/Défendre was initiated by Christine Gist, in her capacity as independent curator, in partnership with Benoît Warzée, Directeur of Espace 36, Saint-Omer. It provided an opportunity to develop new cultural links between the twin towns of Deal and Saint-Omer as well as giving the artists a platform to create place specific works. The juxtaposition of artists' temporary interventions within heritage sites offered audiences in Dover District and the Saint-Omer region a new reading of visual art and location.
