Our résider/reside project, with all its various events in Saint-Omer and Dover is coming to a close with our final event / finissage on Friday, 11th December between 3-5pm in Dover.
It will be the last chance to see Sharon Haward’s “Chasing Shadows” at the Centurion House Box Gallery on Bench Street. You will also be able to see screenings in the Market Square of the works that Pierre-Yves Brest and Sharon Haward developed especially for the BBC Big Screen.
A copy of our résider/reside bilingual project publication can be collected at the Napoletana Restaurant at 4 Bench Street, CT16 1JH, where we will also be serving hot mint tea.
DAD has received additional funding from The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for its Watermark project. The award amounts to £47,300 which means that we now have enough money to ensure delivery of all aspects of the project.
Sharon’s walk on 21 November was well attended by Dover residents and photography enthusiasts.

Clare and Joanna spent two days at the Sheffield docfest last week as part of DAD’s research for Watermark. We met lots of interesting people and went to a few informative sessions, including a pitching session and a legal rights surgery. It was also interesting to see how the internet is being used as a medium for presenting documentary material.

Resider/Reside opened in Dover yesterday with “looking right, then left… then right again” “regarder à gauche, à droite, puis de nouveau à gauche” by Pierre-Yves Brest.
Lots of people came despite the rain to see Pierre-Yves’ images in the Centurion House Box Gallery and on the Big Screen. There was a slight worry when at 4pm there was no sign of the images but at about five past up came the title slide followed by the photographs and the crowd burst into bravos and applause.
“What a magic moment it was to see something so beautiful and unexpected.”
Everyone then piled into Mandy’s tea house for a delicious cream tea and an afternoon of conversation. Mandy and her staff coped admirably, making sure that no-one had to wait too long.

Mediation is what the French call audience engagement or facilitation but it is less pedagogical or didactic in approach than some UK approaches to facilitation. Mediation is one of the central elements of the Resider/Reside project and both Espace 36 and DAD have a mediator to help engage their audiences.
The UK mediator is taking a reflective and creative approach to her role: you can follow this on her blog.
