Nigel Green is based in Pett Level, East Sussex and has worked on two projects organised by DAD; Transmit/Transmettre in 2007/08 and most recently in 2010, the Sea and Walk map of the North Downs Way, documenting examples of 20th and 21st century architecture along the route. Also in 2010 Nigel completed a project which looked at the post First and Second war architecture of Picardy in Northern France. A book of the project, ‘Reconstruction’, was published in March and the work has been shown both in Picardy and at the 2010 Arles Photo Festival.

Nigel has a long term interest in the ‘utopian’ aspects of modernism and post war architectural reconstruction. In 2008 he completed a practice based PhD at the University for the Creative Arts which looked at the relationship between photography and the representation of modernist architectural space, as framed by the polarity of the melancholic 'fragment' and the ‘reprographic’ colour of utopia.

His practice centres on a dialogue between the use of 'objective' documentary formats and a more spontaneous means of image development such as the chemical based darkroom process. His PhD practice led him to explore how the potentially fugitive nature of this process could be translated and extended through digital technology.

His photographic work has been exhibited and published widely and in 2003 he completed a commission by Photoworks to document the power station complex at Dungeness in Kent. The book, which accompanied the project, was short listed for the 2004 Arles Festival Book Awards.
